Tania Tremblay Paquette, Yves and Nicole's daughter in law, works as a teacher at L’école La Sablonnière. Yves and Tania discussed the idea of sharing the Odyssey with the students and creating a cultural exchange. In December 2006, Yves met with 2 classes from L’école La Sablonnière and shared his lifelong dream with the students. He promoted the concepts of setting goals, striving high, working hard, persevering despite obstacles and setbacks, being flexible and passionately following your dreams wherever they take you!
He inspired the children to be all that they can be, to believe in themselves and to strive high!
Yves has made arrangements to meet with Inuit students in Tuktoyaktuk to share this same message and create an exchange between these schools. He asked the children in Québec to each prepare a question about the Inuit culture which Yves will ask the students when he arrives. The answers to these questions will be posted on the Odyssey website. (www.snowodyssey.ca)
This exchange between primary school children helps promote our love of this great Canadian multi-cultural society! Both schools will learn about the other culture and hopefully become pen pals and form life-long friendships. They will certainly be richer for having met Yves! His strength, courage, patience, tenacity and passion for his dream is obvious for all to see.
A young girl from L'école La Sablonnière, inspired by Yves' visit, has already displayed a more tenacious attitude and quoted Yves when speaking to her teacher, "I just need to stick to it and I WILL get it - just like Yves!"
He inspired the children and they inspired him!
